A Prophet is French with Open English Subtitles, HOWEVER it also has an "English Subtitles" button, when pressed, additional descriptive subtitles are added (sounds, noises, etc.). Has anyone else noticed this on other foreign titles with a subtitle button?? The Experiment (2001); Silver Hawk (2004); The White Ribbon (2009); are all samples of this. can anyone (John?) check these and see if there is a small difference between "Subtitles On" & "Subtitles Off"?

The Critics, Yes I will until a site provides all that I provide -- No "Recently Added" listings -- No "Expiring Soon" listings -- No "TV Episodes with or without subtitles" -- No "Open Subtitles" Titles included with the listings (like "See What I'm Saying").
 

Netflix Update: their official list only shows 721 titles. My list shows they should have 735 titles. Not sure where the difference is.
 

NETFLIX UPDATE: As I suspected, Netflix is missing several titles from its own listings in its English Subtitles listings. I have scanned through the first half of the A's and compared all 3 sites (other than my blog) listing subtitles. For Movies, FeedFliks is still most accurate, but you need to filter by year to get all the listings (no "1 big list"). Both Netflix's list & InstantWatcher missed at least a few titles. FeedFliks also does NOT include most TV shows in its listings due to a problem with their algorithm (they know about the problem and are trying to fix it.) So stay right here on my blog for the most complete & accurate listings!!!! --Mike
 

NETFLIX UPDATE 2: Ok I got confused with the "Seen it" filter; however, several 13 titles are still missing from Netflix's list when compared with mine. I will keep searching and let you know when I find them.

NETFLIX UPDATE: They have (finally) posted a subtitles update on their blog ( http://blog.netflix.com/2011/02/30-of-netflix-streaming-content-has.html ), but they claim that 30% of their content is now Subtitled!!! I am assuming they are basing their stats on Total Minutes of programming. I am also assumign whoever is doing the counting, they are forgetting that SEVERAL of their TV Series have only SOME or ONE episode(s) with subtitles, but they are probably counting ALL of the episodes!!

The movie that is called: the chase I request that movie for English subtitles. If there any movies and TV shows that you want for subtitles Netflix will do it right away. I gave them movies and TV shows that I want to add I gave it to them. If there something you want. Call or use the relay and contact Netflix that the specific movies or TV shows because the more videos we get with subtitles we can beat Netflix data sheet at 80%. I explained to Netflix that movies and TV shows should be added the day is been release to stream and what left on Netflix library. We will have to do this every week. I have told them add kids movies so children can watch more appreciation subtitles. The more numbers and the higher we go it will help Netflix to built more subtitles for movies and TV shows. I believe that Netflix is using an excuse numbers of 3,500 only to please us in order to make us happy. We need to kick Netflix ass so they know they are willing to listen to us. Just drop specific movies or TV shows to Netflix via relay and they will listen to you. It will take at least a day or two I think that they will add as long as you tell them what contents. They did mine the day I send my request to Netflix on survey that I did. Thanks, keep up good work.
 

a 4th site for Accessible Netflix Streaming Titles is now live: http://www.phlixie.com from CaptionFish. Let me know here what you think of this site and I will pass it on. I have been working with CaptionFish to find a better, more sortable method of listing Subtitles. They do include all/most foreign language titles with subtitles as well. and there is not an easy way to filter out these titles (yet). Also listings do not have star listings or an easy way to Instantly Play/Queue the title. They *DO* however list Episodes that are/aren't subtitled!
 

Phlixie also does not specify if a Foreign title has additional subtitles for the deaf (like "A Prophet").

While subtitles are available on PC through the browser, they are NOT available through Windows Media Center. Windows Media Center is preferred by many people because you can use a media center remote to control everything which you can not do with the browser.
 

Hey, I'm a fan of this blog, I've been using it since netflix first started subtitles...but never had a google account...just created one so I can tell you, mac-asl, your blog is bad ass! Been watching the comments here, just wanted to say, keep up the good work man! I rely on your blog...also...the movie In the Mouth of Madness has bad subtitles...Not sure how to describe it but it is just messed up. Hi, This is Jeffrey. I want to make a big suggestion to you. I like that you put new titles that already has subtitles "New!" when you scrolled down the list in every letter page. it took me so forever to browse for a new titles release. I suggest you to make a Category to put new release titles as subtitles like "New titles releases" to put titles in list. Easier to know what release titles to watch instead of looking from A to z titles every page. It drove me nuts! You know what I mean.
 

Queen of the Damned have subtitle syncing issue. Similar to Divine Secret of Ya-Ya Sisterhood. When the movie progress, subtitle and the audio syncing becoming a issue

Joe, just enter a new "Tweet" and start it with "@NetflixHelps" (without the quotes). Keep it at 140 characters or less. u cant send a DM (Direct Message -- a private mesage only the 2 of you can see) to them unless they follow you. However, you *can* send a PUBLIC message (called a "tweet" everyone can view) which is the most common type. Example: @NetflixHelps #subtitles on Superman II & Beguiled are not syncing right. Pls fix. #netflix #deaf #a11y -- This still leaves 37 characters to add other stuff! The "#" is called a HashTag. it is a way to "flag" your tweet so others can find it. Many folks search for different hashtags using TwitterSearch, Google & Bing. "a11y" is a known twitter shortcut for Accessibility since there are 11 characters between the A & the Y and it only takes 4 characters instead of 13! Use Hastags in your tweets and you will notice people with similar interests "Follow" you on Twitter!

I am giving Netflix a message to let them know how subtitles needs to be done.

Netflix, keep adding subtitles on every shifts. Technology is changing very rapidly!!! Keep adding subtitles everyday because of having one day a week is not enought. If you Netflix add more subtitles you will be making more money and will draw more costomers and stay away from companies. Companies are trying to take your ideas away from you and Neil hunt and Reed Hastings. Great job with this website! I am a cinephile and I am hard of hearing and I also watch movies with subtitles on unless I had already seen it. Last night I played two movies with subtitles problem and they're the first two that I ran into. They are The Cable Guy (1996, subtitles is messed up everywhere, lines are "stacked" onto another) and The Hudsucker Proxy (1994, halfway into the movie, subtitles are shown 2-3 seconds earlier). I am STRONGLY considering stopping all updates to the master list and instead let Phlixie's automated servers do that work. As you have noticed, I am getting more and more behind with the adding of titles as Netflix has increased the frequency of adding titles from 10-20 per week to 10-20 per day!! I fear this will get worse, not better in the near future (which is actually kind of a good thing!.

I have actually been working with CaptionFish/Phlixie from Phlixie's beginning to develop an automated method of collecting Titles, knowing that eventually Netflix would speed up the pace of their adding of titles.

Phlixie's developers are far enough along in their service that I feel comfortable letting them do the "dirty work" of adding titles. They also are working on a way where I soon can "Force Feed" individual titles to their listing for when they miss titles or as soon as we see titles that have been added to Netflix but not yet added to Phlixie. That should happen very soon.

I am now wondering what should be done with the blog, next??

I am thinking of doing regular updates in more of a traditional Blog format. i want to include:

1) a listing of newly added movies / TV

2) a listing of what TV shows are only partially subtitled

3) a listing of known subtitles problems.

4) stats on how much Netflix is subtitling.

Each blog posting will allow comments so folks can let us know of more issues.

I think eventually even these things will be added to Phlixie's service, but in the mean time, I want to provide these features to folks until that happens.

If you guys want to see movies with subtitles. There is more on Netflix site at the bottom of the page with subtitles section. There are three movie that I have found that do not work is new world disorder and the Joneses this movie was shown on under subtitles section page it shows it has subtitles but I think it was mistake who knows. Another one Romeo & Juliet 1968. Romeo & Juliet 1968 and new world disorder shows there is subtitles but button don't work. Another movie that I looked at was the Joneses 2009 that movie didn't show subtitles English for some reason I don't know if it was by mistake or what. It is really strange. I thought I put a note on post here.
 

Wow! Thank you for all of the hard work in helping to identify the titles with Subtitles on Netflix. Having recently lost the majority of my hearing, I'm understanding the challenges of the Deaf. Therefore, as I'm an avid Netflix user, I've created a Petition to Require Netflix to provide Closed Captioning or Subtitles on ALL of their Streaming Movies. Just a quick note - Glee Season 1, Episode 1 - Pilot... subtitles work great but about halfway through the episode they stop matching the scenes they belong to.
 

subtitles now playing on iphones. play the film and you will see a chat looking icon, click it and select english subs.
 

they also just released netflix app for some andorid phones tho for other phones you can hack to make it work on different phone but it doesn't always work.

no subtitles support yet tho.

UPDATE: Apparently ANY device that gets the "Netflix 3.0" (HTML5) software update (or comes with it pre-installed on some new devices) will be able to display captions!!

This includes select Samsung & Panasonic Blu-Ray Players and soon will include select Iomega ScreenPlay devices (they are supposed to be getting the Netflix 3.0 update soon)
 

They have removed subtitles from a large portion of the films listed on Plixie. I wasn't aware they were removing captions but yet keeping them in the catalog. So they removed for no reason but they can still CLAIM large numbers they have captioned. I think it is time for the Deaf/H-O-H net to get vocal again since it seems that it was all smoke and mirrors and lip service.
 

John has mentioned the same thing. Does Phlixie still show the titles but the actual titles has NO captions any more??
 

Yes, many I have went through Phlixie with have no captions. Called Netflix CSR and all he had to say was they routinely remove captions even if they stay on Netflix catalog.
 

FYI, Netflix changed all of their movie display pages (browse titles) including their Subitltes/Captions pages. You can no longer alphabetize the listing. Titles are larger and you can play right from the listing. for more features, use Phlixie.com instead.
 

It is great to have Phlixie and other websites, like yours Mike, to help those who still are with Netflix. However, thousands are dumping Netflix in order to send a clear message about their lack of subtitles combined with their price hikes.

Iron man 2 has problems with the Captions being repeated. (see the seanate hearing scene, for example)
